HIRING PROCESS
To begin the hiring process, you must submit an application for Police Officer.
2. Physical Ability:
Physical ability tests are required for entry-level positions only. Police Officer Recruits, Police Officer Academy Graduates, and Police Officer Laterals are exempt from the physical ability test.
Once you submit your application and meet all of the minimum qualifications, you will be invited to take the physical ability test.
Stage 1 - 5 1/2-foot wall climb, 99-yard obstacle course, and 150-pound body drag in 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
Stage 2 - 500-yard run in 2 minutes.
The written exam is required for entry-level positions only. Police Officer Recruits, Police Officer Academy Graduates, and Police Officer Laterals are exempt from the written test.
Upon completing the physical ability test, you will be invited to take the written exam. The written exam is administered by the City of Stockton Human Resources Department. Candidates who wish to be considered for the position must appear for their scheduled test.
The POST Entry-Level Test Battery is primarily a language aptitude test. The test battery is comprised of two components: One evaluates writing ability, and the other evaluates reading ability. The writing component of the test measures clarity, vocabulary, and spelling. The reading component measures reading comprehension.
4. Background Process:
Once you have successfully passed the written exam, a thorough background check will be conducted. You will be notified by letter that you have been placed on an eligibility list. Based upon your ranking on the list, you may be contacted by a background investigator and a background packet (Personal History Statement) will be sent out to you.
5. Psychological Test and Interview:
After you pass your background check, a thorough psychological test and interview will be conducted.
6. Polygraph Exam:
A polygraph will be conducted for truth verification testing after the psychological test and interview.
7. Medical Exam:
A medical exam will be conducted to ensure your ability to meet health standards.
