Stockton Accepting Applications for Cultural Heritage Board Vacancies

(Stockton, CA) - The City of Stockton is currently accepting applications for three (3) vacancies on the nine-member (9) Cultural Heritage Board. Full terms are for four (4) years. Terms of those appointed will expire on October 31, 2013. Appointments are made by the Planning Commission and ratified by the City Council. Applicants must reside in the city of Stockton and not hold any public office or position of employment with the City of Stockton. The deadline for applications is Thursday, October 15, 2009, at 5:00 p.m.


The Cultural Heritage Board was formed to preserve and promote the City’s historical, cultural and architectural resources and to advise City officials in these matters. Responsibilities include the evaluation of historically and architecturally significant buildings and sites, the nomination of landmarks and historic districts, the sponsorship of the Award of Excellence Program, and bestowing the Captain Weber and Glen Allen Awards. A background in preservation, architecture, architectural history, construction technology, local history, law or real estate is beneficial.


The Cultural Heritage Board is an advisory body to the City Planning Commission. Meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month, 6:15 p.m., at City Hall, 425 N. El Dorado Street. There is no remuneration.
