Measure W Oversight Committee Meeting
Five Year Review
(Stockton, CA) - The City of Stockton Measure W Oversight Committee will meet Thursday, October 22, 2009, 2:00 p.m., City Hall, 425 N. El Dorado St., Economic Development Conference Room, 3rd floor. This meeting is open to the public.
On November 2, 2004 the voters of Stockton passed The Stockton Safe Neighborhood Gang and Drug Prevention, Police/Fire Response Measure, a one-quarter percent sales tax to fund Public Safety services, also known as Measure W. Collection of the sales tax began on April 1, 2005. As of June 30, 2009, $37.6 million had been generated to fund additional Police and Fire services. Between April 2005 and June 2009, the Police Department hired over 40 police officers and purchased 31 patrol vehicles with Measure W funds. The Fire Department purchased a fire engine and funded 28 fire personnel to staff one Engine Company and partially staff two Truck Companies.
The Measure W Program Guidelines require a review every five years. The first review and report is to be completed five years after the measure was passed by voters, due by November 2, 2009. The Measure W Citizens Oversight Committee will meet and discuss the success of the measure. A report will be made to the Committee about the impact the funding has made toward advancing the safety of the citizens of Stockton.
This five year review is in addition to the Measure W Citizens Oversight Committee regular meetings and responsibilities of monitoring Measure W revenues and expenses, reviewing the annual financial audit, and adopting an annual report.
