Open Recruitment for Vacancies on the Stockton Sports Commission

(Stockton, CA)  - Applicants are sought to fill vacancies on the Stockton Sports Commission’s Board of Directors. The Commission is the City’s 25-member sports promotion and event marketing organization.


Qualified applicants will be interviewed by the Sports Commission Nomination Committee, selected by the full Board, and appointed by the Mayor and City Council. New board members will be seated at the July meeting. Appointments are for full four-year terms.


Board members are volunteers who have demonstrated an interest in working to bring sporting events and tournaments to Stockton. Members meet monthly to evaluate and determine the most effective way to allocate assistance towards local events and attracting major events that bring business and positive recognition to our city.


The Sports Commission is responsible for over $13 million in economic impact annually to our city through sports business attraction. Some of these events have been National Softball Tournaments, CIF Wrestling, State Basketball and Volleyball Championships, USA Karate Qualifier, ESPN BassMasters, and Special Olympics.
Application forms are available from the Sports Commission office, 6 E. Lindsay St., at the City Clerk’s office, 425 N El Dorado St., or online at www.stocktongov.com.
