COGENERATION POWER

Recycling sludge to power the MUD plant.

Photo of the piping for the Cogeneration Project

Every day over 30,000,000 gallons of sewage is processed at MUD.  Part of MUD's effort to recycle is creating the energy to power the plant from the sludge that comes into the plant each day.

20,889 wet tons of sludge is processed through environmentally safe procedures. The cogeneration process generates 17,600 kilowatts/year and the decomposition process for biosolids provides some of the energy for the engine generators. On site energy production supplies most of the plants power needs.

This is another example of MUD's commitment to be a good steward of the environment and recycle where possible.
