For years, hundreds of bird enthusiasts have flocked to the oxidation ponds at the Stockton Wastewater Treatment Facility for birdwatching. Stockton is currently adding a Wetlands to the facility to assist in the effort to treat wastewater and make the area more inviting for birds and birdwatchers alike.
The Stockton Constructed Wetlands was featured as part of the 9th San Joaquin Birding Symposium and is quickly becoming established as a breeding site for local bird species. A recent baseline bird count by the Audubon Society recorded over 7,300 birds representing 55 species. While the public is welcome and encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity, this is a secure facility and visitors must first sign-in at the Plant Administration Building, located at 2500 Navy Drive. From there you will be directed to the Tertiary Ponds.
