Public Art Advisory Committee

Note: This Board is included in the City of Stockton's Conflict of Interest Code and members are required to disclose economic interests held within the jurisdiction of the Board/Commission, by completing a Statement of Economic Interests Form 700 when appointed, as required by the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) and the City of Stockton.

Function:

  • The Public Art Advisory Committee is responsible for implementing the City's Public Art Master Plan. The Committee develops the annual plan which determines which public art projects, when approved by Council, will be undertaken in any given year. The Committee also oversees the process by which artists are selected for public art projects and is responsible for educational programs on public art.

Members must be residents of Stockton for at least 3 years

Minimum Qualifications:

Employment as a professional visual artist and critic of contemporary visual art forums. Experience as an activist for the visual environment. Knowledge of and/or skills in public art; regional and national individual artists and their work; understanding of ethnic and gender diversity; and the Stockton Public Art Plan processes (available from the City Manager's Office or the Stockton Arts Commission) and its implications for the City. Evidence of decision making ability; willingness to tolerate/promote change, experimentation, new artistic and design expressions; and community activities significant enough to confirm knowledge of issues and individuals within the community.
